Get Your E-commerce Website Noticed In 2008

In this article we will reveal the best places to get your products noticed online in 2008.

eBay - 15 million eBay members are actively buying and selling in the UK and over 68,000 businesses are trading there. Over $52 billion was traded on eBay globally in 2006. eBay is one of the first places that consumers looks when trying to source a product to purchase. Consider opening an eBay shop. If set-up correctly and managed, an eBay shop can result in your listings being organically visible on the top search engine organic listings. You can even give your eBay shop the same look and feel as your website.

Amazon - Together with eBay, Amazon is one of the first places that consumers visit in their efforts to source products. Online merchants can be invited by Amazon to open Pro-merchant Accounts to list their products. More than 900,000 third-party sellers now promote and sell their products on Amazon which has 45 million customers. Like eBay, if set-up correctly and managed, an Amazon listings can result in organic visibility on the top search engines.

Amazon offers volume listing tools, subscription selling rates, downloadable inventory information and more. All you need to gain access to these tools is a Pro-merchant subscription which involves contacting Amazon directly.

Google Shopping - Many people do not realise that Google has its very own shopping portal, and the best part is it is free! Google Shopping is also known as Froogle, Google Product Search or Google Base and is a place where you can easily submit products to be indexed by Google. Google Shopping is an extension of Google dedicated to helping shoppers find products quickly and easily on the web. The advantages of listing products include (taken from Google)

  • Millions of people come to Google each day, and many are actively looking for the consumer or business products you are selling.
  • No cost. Unlike other online shopping sites, listing your products on Product Search costs nothing.
  • There is no spending account to set up and maintain, and no cost-per-click.
  • Control of your product information. Google Base lets you maintain the accuracy and freshness of your product information, so your customers find the relevant, current items they are looking for.

Google shopping provides all the necessary information to get your products listed for free. This is an opportunity not to be missed for ecommerce retailers. Google shopping product listings also appear in Google’s organic search listings.

Other Comparison Shopping Portals - Shopping Portals allow potential customers to browse and compare products online in terms of cost, quality and delivery from anywhere in the world. Additionally, a picture of the product is displayed along with the name and brand of the company who is selling the goods. In most cases, the selling company’s brand image is displayed alongside their brand name.

Paid shopping portals operate a strategy by charging companies to be listed on their portal websites. The portals introduce a very similar system to pay per click advertising in that they charge on a cost per click basis i.e. a user clicks on a product within your listing and you are charged for that click through to your website.

Accounts and budgets for shopping portals vary in that some portals will charge you more to set up an account as opposed to others that will charge a minimum spend. Shopping portals to consider would be some of the following.

  • Shopzilla
  • Bizrate
  • Shopping.com
  • Ciao
  • Price Savvy
  • Next Tag
  • Kelkoo
  • Price Grabber
  • Price Runner

Again, shopping portal listings can and do appear in the major search engines for product related searches.

Pay Per Click - Pay per click advertising is a powerful online marketing tool, as it immediately assists in the promotion of the business brand and products by placing adverts at or near the top of search engines such as Google.

On most occasions, pay per click advertising allows businesses to get adverts on page 1 on Google generally within one day of the advert being set-up. Additionally, pay per click advertising should attract the correct type of visitor to your site - one that has an interest in the products and services on offer.

Pay Per Click Advertising can take on a diverse range of formats and these can include:

  • Text ad
  • Image ad
  • Local business ad
  • Mobile text ad
  • Click-to-play video ad

The top Pay Per click Companies include:

  • Google AdWords
  • Yahoo
  • Microsoft Ad Center
  • Miva

How To Dig Google Adsense Gold: Part 2 of 15 (Custom Report)

In this second part of “How To Dig Google Adsense Gold” guide, we’ll discuss custom reports and how they can used to your advantage. Custom reports for google adsense is a pretty common known feature but do we really know what it is? After all it gives you the opportunity to track everything from ad units to impressions and even data over time accumulated and right to your mailbox. Used wisely with google adsense custom reports can increase your cash by telling you exactly what is going on and when it’s going on. Not to mention eliminating the hustle of checking your google account in order to track your earnings let’s say per week.

Getting Started

Log into your google adsense account. And go to the “advanced reports” under the “reports” tab. There choose the settings you want your new report to be and press “Display Report”. There on the right middle side there should be a box and enter your new custom report name and press save. Now keep in mind that whatever settings you had on to show the report are the ones that it’s going to use. From there you can go to the “report manager” tab, under “reports” yet again, and there you can change the frequency say weekly, monthly whatever you feel like. Here also you can choose the email it shall be sent to, and the google adsense folks did us one even better you can choose which format the report will be in CVS or CVS-EXCEL. That’s it you are all done but what do you do with this new found knowledge? Well read on…

Let’s Play Diary Keeper

Custom reporting isn’t just a sport or just a way to get your weekly earnings it’s much better than that. I am going to show you a method I use to keep tract of things going on in my many all about google adsense campaigns. First create a folder on your computer. Name it “Google Adsense Log” or something close. Next inside the folder name a new folder with a weekly name say “Sept-14-to-21″ this way you know what time frame it is. Next go inside the folder and in there save a text file, but not just any normal text file I want you to put in all the details of your google adsense ad units. From color to placement everything covered in my channels article. Now that you know what time frame and what the ads you are you know everything about what you did with your google adsense units. Save that file to that corresponding folder. And at the end of the week save the CVS file you get to that folder. This way you not only have what you did but the fruits of your labor as well. You can use this for a month each time creating anew folder for a new week to see with things you tried worked best. Now this assumes you don’t change your google adsense ad units during the weeks, and just wait for a new week to try something new. At the end of the month you can decide which methods worked to bring you more revenue. This is just one of the many ways you can use google adsense custom reporting to your advantage.

Freeze!

Many of us have experienced events when our google adsense revenue either jumps up really high or goes to zip. We stand mouth wide wondering what we did wrong or right. Well with custom reporting you can see just that. If you use them right and keep up with teach week you can see exactly what you did or what one of your visitors did to bring about such a change.

Good Investments

Using google adsense custom reports will give you all the previously stated advantages but there is more. How many of you have thought about selling your websites? Say it’s getting to hard to keep up with, or you don’t have enough time anymore. Well think about your custom reports and being used as proof of the kind of google adsense earnings a potential client will. After all they stay in your google adsense account so you have proof that those really are the correct stats of your ad units. Adding just one more thing to entice your buyers.

Thank You

Search Engine Optimisation Services Specialist Discusses What Is Search Engine Optimisation Part 25

How many people have bought a software program that promised to do everything for them? Promises like ‘we will drive motivated traffic to your website’, ‘you do not have to do a single thing, we will do it all for you’, ‘just pay the $300 and you will get instantaneous traffic to your website’. How many people have fallen for all that rubbish? The answer is many. How many people have fallen for the line ‘we will get you one million motivated visitors to your website for $29.95′? Any person or company that makes exaggerated claims like that need to be severely punished because these types of people are nothing but ‘hype’.

While we are on the topic of ‘hype’ you need to be aware about the ‘hype’ around the keyword term or phrase “Search Engine Optimisation”. Do you realise that there are so many so called search engine optimisation companies and individuals on the internet and off line that are charging good people incredible amounts of money and providing absolutely no service. As an example, there has been a person who paid a company $18000 to market two websites for him on the internet.

This company promised him that they would get a massive amount of people coming to his business as a result of them marketing his website online. This company did not provide a detailed step by step procedure of how they were going to achieve that goal. The company stated that they were ‘just going to do it’. You need to know what questions to ask an individual or company claiming to be search engine optimisation specialists.

Companies and people claiming to be SEO specialists and who are in fact only scam artists whose sole aim is to rob people of their money make the legitimacy of genuine sincere and honest search engine optimisation specialists’ efforts very difficult. People get a bad taste about the entire internet because they got ‘ripped off’ and so they approach everybody with scepticism, including the honest internet marketers and SEO specialists. There are also many credible and legitimate SEO companies and individuals on the internet.

Adsense - Free Website - Paid Website Or Blog

Adsense are the google ads that you quite commonly see on website and the owner of the website gets paid whenever someone clicks on those ads.

It is possible to earn a very good income using Adsense ads on your website but how much you earn can all depend on how you set your website up.

Should you use free web hosting to set up an Adsense website?

Free web hosting should not be used for an Adsense website for two main reasons.

The first reason being that many of the free web hosting providers will actually have their own ads placed on your website. This is the payoff for having free hosting that you will have the hosting companies ads on your site.

It is actually against Googles terms of service to place ads on a webpage that has the hosting companies ads on that page already. So if you have a free website which already has ads on it, and you place Google Adsense ads on their you can very likely have your Google account suspended.

The second reason is that a free hosted website does not look all that professional. You are restricted to a certain degree and will more than likely have it written somewhere on your pages that your site is hosted free.

If your aim is to make a good income online then you really do need to have a professional looking website so your customers will feel like you are a professional and can gain a trust in you and what your website is telling them. If you customers like your website and gain a trust in you, then there is a good chance of them coming back to your site and possibly clicking on your ads.

Should I use a blog to earn an income with Adsense?

You can have Adsense ads on a blog and many people do. A blog is like an online diary that you can update with any information you like and as often as you like.

It is much easier to get a higher page ranking with a blog than it is with a website, so your blog could be gaining a decent amount of traffic much quicker than perhaps a website could. So in this way, it is a great idea to set up a blog and have your adsense ads on it.

You are a little restricted with your layout and pages of a blog compared to an actual website, but you can still place a good number of Adsense ads onto your blog and if you update it regularly and get good traffic then you will make some money doing this.

Is paid website hosting the best option for using Adsense?

I believe having a website with paid hosting is the best option to earning a good income using Adsense.

With paid hosting your site will look very professional. You can add a lot of content to your site which will bring you ads that are relevant to your websites topic.

With your website you can set up many pages of related information and have your Adsense ads placed on all pages.

You will have to work a little harder than with a blog to increase your page ranking and your traffic and it could be a good idea to have a blog also linking back to your website and this way you will have your Adsense ads on both your website and your blog.

Definitely use a paid hosting service for your Adsense website and your earnings will be significantly higher than with a free website or a blog.

The Best SEO Practices - 4 All Important Facts To Consider When Using SEO

SEO or search engine optimization is a big factor to consider in your online business. The most successful webmasters tend to concentrate more of their efforts to ensuring there is highly targeted traffic traveling to their websites on a consistent basis. While it is pleasant to see a large amount of traffic flowing to your websites, it could have a negative impact on your site. By applying the best SEO practices you will ensure that only high targeted traffic visits your website. This is critical to your online success. I will reveal 4 important factors that can help you drive in the desired traffic you are seeking for easily.

1. Traffic

SEO was created to help webmasters to increase their traffic to their site. Most websites are built to be viewed by people searching for information on the internet and search engines like Google and Yahoo are extremely important in helping website owners accomplish this goal. Search engines hold a great deal of power and should be taken seriously. To become a powerful presence on the internet you need to be able to take advantage of the power search engines.

Consider this: About 90% of all internet users make use of search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN, and other search engines to help them in their online activities. Most users utilize Google as their main search engine. Google generates about 70% of all search related activity on the internet.

2. Getting a targeted visitor

One of the most successful marketing strategies a webmaster can use is to perform targeted searches. This marketing technique is not like other techniques, where you could possibly fall short of targeting the correct visitor. These successful webmasters know how to divide their market and filter in the right kind of people a specific product, service, or any other specified content. Usually, people are looking for topics they have an interest in, and by you providing the right market to that visitor, will have a definite impact on your business.

3. Behavior of the search engines

Search engines are in no way different than people, they prefer websites that contain quality information about a topic relevant to what the person is searching for. Sites that rank high on the search engines appear there because they are very popular among people as well as the search engines. To have your site ranked on the first page is a great accomplishment to aim for.

4. Cost Effectiveness

It takes more than knowledge to expand your internet presence to it fullest potential. Optimizing your website will seem like a full-time job and will have an extremely long learning curve, and because of this, most webmasters turn to using SEO tools or using a SEO service to help them with this process. Hiring a SEO firm or expert can be risky. Before you make any deal, you should check out their creditability, the quality of their work, and pricing. Doing so will save you a big headache and a loss of funds.

By keeping these 4 points in mind, you should focus you effort into what is important to your business which is surviving on the internet. In order for your business to succeed online, you need traffic, but highly targeted traffic. Whether you choose to use a SEO firm or use SEO tools and do it yourself, search engine optimization is critical to your online success. Take another look at the 4 factors above and start completing the best SEO practices to assure you get the results you have been working for.

Google AdWords and AdSense - A Dynamic Small Business Marketing Duo

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last year or so, you probably know that Google has become the king of the search engine hill. There are many reasons for this but number one in my opinion is that above all else they put value on content. Today I want to introduce you to two very powerful small business advertising options created by Google.

These two ingenious programs have all but revolutionized the way advertising is done on the web. Warning: If you are thinking…”web advertising isn’t for me, I just need a few more clients around the block”…you better read this or be prepared to have your competitors eat your lunch.

Goolge AdSense - Again content is king at Google. This program allows web site “publishers” to add some code from Google and receive “content relevant” ads on their site from other site owners. Here is an example - those ads in the box on the right of the page are delivered by Google and are matched to the content on the page. When someone surfs to the page and decides to check out one of those ads, the web site owner earns a portion of the advertising revenue that Google collects.

The key here is that if you go to a site about quilting, you will see ads about quilting and not about dog grooming. I know this sounds so obvious but Google was the first to really figure this out.

This program has worked so well that some website owners are actually building content specific sites and paying for them solely through AdSense revenue. Small business owners should consider adding this feature to pages on their site for several reasons.

I’ve already mentioned the fact that there is money to be made, but what many site owners are finding is that because Google is so respected and because the ads are highly targeted…they are no longer looked at by surfers as ads, they are looked at as content.

Some will even go as far as to say that by putting the Google ads on your site you actually better your chances of higher rankings with Google. Google flatly denies this claim and I don’t think it is true but I do know that Google AdSense ads should be on every small business owner’s site. (Google AdSense)

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Another Warning: This is somewhat complex stuff. This article is only meant to introduce you to the power of these programs. Check out Google Cash by Chris Carpenter for a deeper understanding of ways to make this work for you.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Google AdWords - I’ve already talked about those ads you see on websites, well those ads need to come from somewhere don’t they. AdWords is Google’s program for advertisers.

Any site that wishes to participate bids for “keywords” that are relevant to their product, service, or site and then creates ads to attract hits. These ads show up on private websites, like this example, and on the right side of Google search results like this search for “Free sales letters and tools” As you can see from this Google search you received the content related sites that you searched for but you also get some related ads that are sponsored.

Now here is where Google is genius. Instead of simply subjecting surfers to any ads that anyone is willing to pay for, they actually police the ads that are running. On some pay per click programs, whoever is willing to pay to most wins. Google uses a performance model. In other words an ad that is the most relevant and therefore receives the most clicks will move ahead of an ad that may pay more but isn’t as effective. This simple philosophy is why Google has quickly dominated the PPC world.

Okay…and now the really big innovation

Regional targeting. Google recently introduced a system that allows advertisers to target certain metropolitan markets only. In other words, a remodeling contractor who only wants to do kitchen remodels in say, Denver, can bid on the keyword phrase “kitchen remodel” and only have his ads show up for people who live in and around Denver.

The implication this has for local small business owners is staggering. In the example above, our Remodeler can now tap into highly targeted web traffic for pennies per lead. In my opinion, small business owner who learn the ins and outs of this medium will dominate their markets. (Google AdWords)

Look for more on this topic in the future.

Tips to Get a Google AdSense Account

To whom it may not familiar with AdSense, It is a Google’s marketing program which allows website/blog owners to generate income from displaying relevant Google ads on their websites. AdSense matches the content of the website to ads within their AdWords program and displays the relevant ads on the website. The website owners will get income from their website visitors clicking the ads. And there are some success stories from people who profiting and earning thousand dollars from Google AdSense.

So how you can get those kinds of ads displayed in your website? Basically you have to register you website/blog and get Google’s approval. But unfortunately not every request will get approved. I have a tip for you based on my experience obtaining approval from Google in my first try, here are the steps:

1. Set up your blog with www.blogspot.com. Blogspot is a Google own blogging service. Make a certain theme for your blog and make sure that the theme is a marketable theme.

2. Put several relevant contents to your blog. Google loves contents! If you choose “health” as your theme, then you can write anything about health. But let me remind you, you have to write them in English. If you think you can’t write and not really confident with your English, don’t worry about that. You can find relevant contents in free articles directory such GoArticles.com and Ezinearticles.com but don’t delete the author names and their links (usually available at the bottom of the articles). Don’t take credit on their works.

3. If you have put some relevant contents, wait about two or three days. When you edit the layout or format of your blog, it will appear an offer from Google to apply for Google AdSense account. If the offer does not appear, just visit www.google.com/adsense and register there. Believe me, your AdSense account approval will send to your email address in several days that you start make money with Google AdSense.

Mastering SEO - The REAL Truth About Duplicate Content

Want to get your website to the very top of the search engines? Quality search engine optimization is the key. Recently, there’s been a lot of talk on the issue of duplicate content. It’s been said that having duplicate content on your web page can affect it’s rankings on the search engine. Is that true? Read this article to find out more.

Firstly, what is duplicate content? Well let’s say you want to create a blog on snakes, as an example. This blog will be all about the different kinds of species of snakes. To get content for your blog, you go to an article directory and republish an article you find on snakes. You are allowed to do this since the article directory gives you permission to republish articles. What happens is that now there are at least two web pages that have the same article on it. This is called “duplicate content” and is often believed to affect search engine rankings since the article is not “original”.

The truth is this, the issue of similar content affecting search engine positions has been overrated. Many sites still rank on the top for highly-competitive keywords although they have lots of duplicate content.

The reason why many sites with similar content appear to get banned is because these websites may also contain other “black hat” tricks in an attempt to fool the search engines. The duplicate content thing is not the main problem. If you use content which is similar but stick to search engine rules and don’t use black hat tricks, your site will be hard-pressed to be penalized by the search engines.

Reciprocal Links: Quality is as Important as Quantity

Link popularity, the number of incoming links to your website, plays an important part in determining your site??s ranking in a search engine. But, before you rush off to try and get any and all sites to link to you there are a few things to consider, and one of them is that the quality of the links are as important as the quantity.

If you get a link to your site from Yahoo, then your own site??s ranking in various search engines will be enhanced, as Yahoo is one of the most popular sites on the Internet. Ranking of course is not a precise term, and varies from search engine to search engine. But if you want to be consistent, you can use the Google Toolbar, and the Google page ranking, shown in the toolbar, as way of judging how well you are doing. Google ranks a page from 0-10, and a site with a 0 ranking will not do well in searches, especially in very competitive categories. So when it comes to finding link partners one guideline is to find sites that have a Google ranking that is equal to or higher than yours.

A site with a 0 ranking will not help you. Also, sometimes a site has a relatively good page ranking but its links page is 0, and this is the page that links to you, thus it is very important. So the question is why is the links page 0 when the rest of the site is OK? Some sites use robotic tools to create what are known as ??link farms. Link farms are huge collections of links, a giant directory that dwarfs the original web site. These were set up by people hoping to increase their link popularity very fast. However search engines got wise to this, and do not give any importance to such directories, hence you will see a 0 ranking for them.

So, if it is a link farm, don??t participate in a link exchange with that site. It will not help you, and some observers say that a link from a ??link farm? will actually harm your standing. I am not sure if it will harm you, but it is definitely not going to help you.

Another important thing to consider is whether the links page or directory on the other site is visible to the public. This might seem elementary, but some people like to get reciprocal links but don??t really display them fairly, because they don??t want people leaving their site through the reciprocal links. The links page should be linked to at least one of the major pages of the site, if it is not, then don??t puruse the link. One time, I noticed this on another site and objected. The webmaster acknowledged my point and changed the site to properly display the links page.

Similarly, if your link on the other site will be in sea of hundreds of unsorted links, like on the free-for-all links pages, this is not valuable to you, because such a site has little chance of sending you any traffic.

What are the best sites to link to? A site that has good content, a site that your web visitors will think is a valuable resource. While you can??t take responsibility for everything that is on the other person??s website, you shouldn??t knowingly send your web visitors to a low-quality website. So be selective in pursuing reciprocal links, and in responding to requests for links. Visit the other site and see what it is all about before jumping to link with them.

The ideal link partner should be a site thematically related to yours, with the kind of visitors who will also be interested in your site. It should give your link the kind of prominence that will enable you to get some traffic, and finally, the site should have a decent page ranking. If you get all of these factors together, you can be sure that it is a quality link and worth your effort in making the contact and setting up the link exchange. Check your logs from time to time and see which links are performing well, and then try to find similar link partners.

Reciprocal linking takes time if you want to do it correctly, but the targeted traffic that it can generate coupled with the enhancement of your page ranking that it can provide, makes it an important part of overall website promotion.

What You Must Know About Google’s Terms of Service

When you install a piece of software, you usually get an End User License Agreement that you’re supposed to read carefully. You’re then supposed to click a button to show that you’ve read it all through, understand it and agree with every word. If anyone but the lawyers who write these things has ever read them I’ll eat my hat. Most people just click and move on.

The Google Terms of Service are different.

Before you put Google’s AdSense code on your website, you must read the Terms of Service carefully. I’m not just saying that to protect myself legally; I’m saying that to protect your income.

Google’s terms are strict but sensible. They stop people from talking users who have no intention of buying from an advertiser into clicking on an ad. They protect advertisers from having their sites promoted in places with objectionable content. And they stop publishers from playing around with the code.

That last point is important. One of the biggest reasons that people get banned from Google is that they play around with the code to improve the way their ads look. They get a bit too smart and think they can do a better job than Google. That’s a terrible mistake.

If you break the Terms of Service - even accidentally - you could find yourself banned for life. That’s the loss of all your AdSense revenues because of one silly mistake.

The fact is, there are lots of perfectly legitimate strategies that you can use to change the way your ads look. Google itself provides a whole box of tools that you can use - and you should use them. It’s precisely how you use those tools that will determine whether or not your site brings in pennies or bucketloads of bucks. In fact, there are so many ways that you can change the way your ad looks that there’s no need to touch the code at all.

That doesn’t mean you can’t use code at all though. One way to increase your click-throughs is to put the code inside a table so that the ads make a better impression on the page. Is that in line with Google’s Terms of Service? You bet - provided you know how or do it right. And you can bet that it will have a great effect on your click-throughs and your revenues.
